Expressive, Sculptural Paintings Crafted with a Palette Knife
Meet Lora Marden, a New Orleans–based Contemporary Indigenous Artist creating bold, textured acrylic paintings that celebrate color, dimension, and the joy found in the world around us. Her vibrant, unique paintings bring a sense of wonder to collector’s homes across the country.
Lora has been painting since childhood. Growing up on the island of Martha’s Vineyard, she was always drawn to texture and the tactile nature of art. Today, she works primarily with a palette knife, building thick, sculptural layers that give each piece a distinct presence. Her subjects reflect what inspires her most: the character of New Orleans, the beauty of wildlife and native blooms, and the coastal heritage that shaped her early years. Lora strives to create art that feels uplifting and full of personality, pieces that bring warmth and joy into the spaces they inhabit.
As an Aquinnah Wampanoag born and raised on Martha’s Vineyard, Lora’s artwork carries the strength and calm of her ancestral coastal roots while embracing the rich culture, rhythm, and spirit of New Orleans, the place she now proudly calls home.
Outside the studio, you’ll often find Lora appreciating the everyday magic of New Orleans - parading in Mardi Gras Krewes, enjoying the beauty nature, exploring historic neighborhoods, or spending time with the people who make this city feel like home. She also travels back to Martha’s Vineyard to visit family and gain inspiration by reconnecting with the land her ancestors walked for generations.
Art of Giving Back
Supporting the community that influences so much of Lora’s work is deeply important to her. Throughout the year, she donates artwork to local charities and organizations in New Orleans and Martha’s Vineyard, using her art as a way to give back and uplift the places she loves. If you’re hosting a charitable event, we’d be honored to consider a donation.
